The Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka created an interpretive plan for their exhibits in 2023-2024. Part of a reaccreditation project, SJM has been wanting to take a good look at their galleries for some time. The collections highlight a complex story that involves Alaska Native artwork and culture, boarding schools and colonization, and the museum’s role of collecting and preserving art. It has been and continues to be important to us to hear from visitors, artists, stakeholders, and the local and broader Alaska Native community.
